Cookies
What this website stores in your browser, and what it does not. Last updated 27 October 2026.
1. The short answer
Nothing that tracks you runs unless you agree. On your first visit a banner asks whether we may use Google Analytics. Until you answer, and if you say no, this website sets no tracking cookies and sends nothing to Google. Saying no changes nothing about how the site works.
2. What you can choose
Analytics (Google Analytics)
If you agree, Google Analytics records which pages you view, how you arrived (for example from a search, or a link in an email), roughly where you are (city level), your device and browser type, and whether you contacted us or applied for a job. It uses cookies to recognise your browser across pages and later visits. It does not receive your name, phone number, email address or anything you type into a form, and Google Analytics does not store IP addresses.
Google stores this data in the United States. We keep it for 14 months, then Google deletes it.
Advertising measurement
If you also agree to this, Google may use the same data to tell us whether an advertisement of ours led to an enquiry, and may link your visit to your Google account's advertising settings. We switch off ad personalization on every page about a type of care, a condition or a guide, whatever you choose, because what someone reads about care can say something about their health: those visits are never used to show you ads. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, this starts switched off.
3. Exactly what is stored on your device
| Name | Set by, and when | Purpose | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
bh_consent (local storage) | Us, when you make a choice | Remembers your choice so the banner does not ask on every page | 12 months, then we ask again |
_ga, _ga_* (cookies) | Google Analytics, only if you agree to analytics, for www.brillianthomecare.ca only | Recognise your browser across pages and visits | 12 months |
_gcl_* (cookies) | Google, only if you agree to advertising measurement | Connect a click on one of our ads to an enquiry | Up to 90 days |
bh_attribution (session storage) | Us, only if you agree to analytics | The first page of your visit and the site or campaign that sent you, added to a form if you send one (privacy policy, section 3) | Until you close the tab |
bh_pending_lead (session storage) | Us, only if you agree to analytics | Lets the thank-you page count a sent form once, with the answers listed in section 4 | Until the thank-you page loads, or the tab closes |
Saying no, or changing your mind later, deletes the Google cookies above from this site and switches Google Analytics off on the page you are on.
4. What we count, and what we never send
With your agreement we count: pages viewed; clicks on our phone number, email addresses and main buttons; when you start, try to send, or successfully send a form; which form field had a problem (its name, never what you typed); which questions you open on our FAQ; how far you read a guide; and links that lead to a missing page.
When an enquiry is sent we tell Google only who it is for (yourself, family, or a professional), the area and how soon help is needed. For a job application, only the role and the hours. Never your name, contact details, message, or what kind of care you said you need.
5. Measurement that never identifies anyone
Whatever you choose, we count page views and referrers in aggregate so we know which pages are useful, without a cookie, without building a profile of any individual visitor, and without the data ever leaving servers we control in Canada. Concretely: our content delivery network (Amazon CloudFront) writes a request record for each page view, and we query those records in aggregate (page views per day, top pages, top referring sites). That record includes the page, the page you came from, your browser type and your country, but not your IP address or any cookie. We also use Amazon CloudWatch RUM to see how the site performs for real visitors, page load speed and any errors your browser hits, which works the same cookie-free way: it does not set a cookie, and it cannot follow you across visits or to any other website. Both tools run inside our own AWS account, in Canada.
6. The care app is a separate system
The Brilliant Homecare app requires signing in and is a different system, on phones and at app.brillianthomecare.ca. It has no trackers and no Google Analytics. The web version sets one cookie of its own, on app.brillianthomecare.ca only, to keep you signed in, and like the phone version it keeps some working information on your device so it works without a signal. Its app privacy policy explains what, in section 11.
This website's Google Analytics cookies are set for www.brillianthomecare.ca only, so they are never sent to the app.
