Home care in Port Coquitlam
Port Coquitlam is mostly flat, built from the 1950s on, and full of single-family homes where people have lived for decades. It has no SkyTrain station of its own, and that shapes how someone gets to appointments once they stop driving.
Fraser Health home and community care
Port Coquitlam is Fraser Health, like the rest of the Tri-Cities. Publicly funded home support is arranged after an assessment, it is income-tested, and where it meets the need it is cheaper than we are. New clients start through Fraser Health’s home health line.
Our costs and funding guide covers the other ways families pay.

Local knowledge
No hospital and no SkyTrain inside the city
Port Coquitlam is served by Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody and Royal Columbian in New Westminster. The nearest SkyTrain stations are just over the line in Coquitlam, and the West Coast Express runs only at weekday rush hours. Getting to a follow-up appointment usually means a car, and we can drive.
Homes people have lived in for a long time
Lincoln Park and Mary Hill grew from the 1950s, Riverwood and Citadel Heights in the 1980s and 1990s, and most of the city is houses rather than towers. Older houses often mean a step at every door and a bathroom that was never planned for a walker. We look at the house as well as the person.
Rivers on three sides
The city sits between the Pitt, Fraser and Coquitlam rivers, and much of it is floodplain behind dikes. For anyone living alone, we agree early what happens to a visit if a storm or a road closure gets in the way.
